Digital Literacy Programs
According to Brookings Institution, nearly two-thirds of all new jobs created since 2010 required either high or medium level digital skills. Unfortunately, Latinos, who make up 18% of the labor market and will account for seven out of ten new workers entering the labor market by 2025, also make up 35% of the labor market with no digital skills, and 20% of those with limited skills.
In partnership with UnidosUS, Verizon, and Google, we offer two digital literacy classes that aims to close this digital gap. If you’re looking to get started with learning how to use technology or if you’re looking to improve your skills for your current employer or if you’re looking to re-enter the workforce, read below on our two programs.
Latinx@Work Digital Literacy Program
In partnership with UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization, and Verizon, Neighborhood Housing Services of Queens offers digital literacy classes to adults in Western Queens with none or the minimal digital literacy to close the technology skills gap among Hispanics and ensure they are well equipped to thrive in an increasingly competitive—and digital—workforce.
Students meet twice a week for two months and are taught computer and internet basics and career development. Upon training completion, participants receive supportive services to support their goals in obtaining employment, training, or post-secondary education and are given a laptop courtesy of UnidosUS and Verizon.
