HUD-certified homebuyer education, one-on-one counseling, credit and affordability review, and Down Payment Assistance — designed for first-time buyers in Queens, especially low- and moderate-income families.
What we do
NHS of Queens is a HUD-certified housing counseling agency. That means our homebuyer counseling meets federal standards and our certificates are accepted by lenders, SONYMA, and city and state programs. But more importantly, it means we sit down with you — in English or Spanish — and walk through what's actually involved in buying a home, before you spend a dollar.
For 30 years, we've helped 827 first-time homeowners — almost all from low- or moderate-income households — buy their first home in Queens. Total mortgage financing secured: $148.6 million. That's not just a stat. It's 827 families that put down roots, build equity, and stay in their neighborhoods.
What we do
HUD-certified homebuyer workshops — group education on the full purchase process: credit, mortgages, closing costs, and post-purchase responsibilities.
One-on-one counseling with a HUD-certified counselor — confidential, free, in English or Spanish.
Credit review and repair guidance — practical steps to improve your credit profile before you apply for a mortgage.
Affordability analysis — what mortgage you can actually afford, including taxes, insurance, and maintenance.
Down Payment Assistance (DPA) navigation — federal, state, city, and lender programs you may qualify for.
SONYMA program guidance — including the State of New York Mortgage Agency's Achieving the Dream and Low Interest Rate programs.
Lender introductions — relationships with CRA-active community lenders who serve Queens.
