A HUD-certified nonprofit community development corporation, founded in 1994 to strengthen neighborhoods and expand access to safe, stable, affordable housing across Queens.

NHS of Queens exists to strengthen neighborhoods and expand access to safe, stable, and affordable housing. We do that through a tightly integrated portfolio of free programs — housing counseling, foreclosure prevention, workforce development, energy efficiency, and direct community support — that together form a complete pathway from housing crisis to housing stability, and from stability to long-term economic mobility.
The Casita is not a building project. It is the infrastructure for resilience across a corner of Queens that represents roughly one million New Yorkers.

THE STORY
When NHS of Queens was founded in 1994, the borough looked very different. Housing markets were unstable. Working-class immigrant communities had few advocates inside the financial system. There was no real bridge between a Queens family's desire to stay in their neighborhood and the professional infrastructure needed to make that happen.
NHSQ was built to be that bridge — and we've held that role for 30 unbroken years through housing booms, the 2008 foreclosure crisis, the pandemic disruption of 2020, and the affordability crisis of today.
When the pandemic disrupted Queens in 2020, NHSQ stayed open. The years that followed show a service organization that has not just recovered, but scaled and diversified across every program area — even as community demand has continued to grow.
In 2023, we acquired The Casita at 94-33 Corona Avenue in Elmhurst — the first permanent home in our history. The renovation is underway. Anticipated completion is 2027. When it's done, every program we run will operate from one place, at scale, simultaneously — for the first time in three decades.
Three decades. One unbroken thread.
